Amerikan müzik endüstrisi, İngiliz Mercury Ödülleri'ne bir karşılık olarak geliştirdiği Shortlist Prize (for Artistic Achievement in Music)'a aday olan 49 ismi açıkladı. İlginç bir şekilde genel olarak hip hop ve indie dünyasından seçilen adayların on tanesi finale kalacak. Jüri üyeleri arasında ise Beck, Dave Grohl, Mos Def, Trent Reznor, Aimee Mann ve Macy Gray gibi müzik dünyasından farklı isimler bulunuyor. Bu ödüle aday olabilmek için albümlerin 2000 Temmuz'undan sonra yayınlanmış ve 500.000'den az satmış olması gerekiyor. Finale kalan gruplar, 31 Ekim'de Los Angeles'da düzenlenecek bir konserde açıklanacak.
